Information Desk Volunteer
Description:
Information Desk Volunteers are the first Museum representatives that the public sees upon entering the building. This is a very important position in the Museum as it is the focal point of incoming and outgoing information as well as being an extremely high visibility area.
The primary function of the Information Desk Volunteer is to be a resource to our guests. Volunteers greet visitors, answer myriad of questions pertaining to exhibits, schedules, prices, directions, amenities, and upcoming events.
Volunteers at the Information Desk are a welcome addition to the front-line staff and work with staff members from the Science Central and Visitor Services Departments.
Responsibilites:
Learn the layout of Museum and location of amenities
Keep informed of Museum exhibits, programs, shows and special events
Know how to locate and access information resource materials at the Information Desk
Become familiar with Museum policies and emergency protocols
Greet visitors with a helpful attitude
Have working knowledge of Boston area attractions
Minimum Qualifications:
*Minimum age requirement of 18 years old
*Enjoy meeting and speaking with the public
*Handle multiple tasks
*Ability to maintain pleasant attitude even under stress
*A neat personal appearance
*Customer service experience helpful but not required
Commitments:
Four to six month commitment, one 3.5 hour shift per week. Morning and afternoon shifts may be available. Additionally, attendance at the New Volunteer Orientation session is required.
