Silk from the Ages

Videocast [Return to listing page]

March 05, 2009

Researchers at the University of Wisconsin and Harvard University have uncovered silk fibers in 4,400-year old artifacts from the Indus Valley Civilization, located in present-day Pakistan and western India. The silk is from wild moths native to Southeast Asia, and its use by the Indus Valley inhabitants is the first evidence that silk production may not have been exclusively a Chinese technology. In this videocast, learn how the structure of single silk fibers could provide so much information.
